AN ODE TO WINTER.

“WINTER IS THE TIME OF PROMISE BECAUSE THERE IS SO LITTLE TO DO – OR BECAUSE YOU CAN NOW AND THEN PERMIT YOURSELF THE LUXURY OF THINKING SO.” – STANLEY CRAWFORD

*Deep breath in…and out*
Terribly sorry for the long wait, guys. Exams, exams, exams…*rolling eyes*, seriously, I could give you about 50 things I’d rather be doing with my life. If there’s anything worse than having to write an exam, it’s having to study the f*ck for it – and sh*t, you know you’ve perfected the art of procrastination when you drink all the water in your water bottle, all so you can take a nice & long trip to the bathroom, or even better, when you decide that you’re going to blog a day before you’re suppose to write an exam. Now that’s GANGSTER!
The only upside of this gruesome period for me is that it’s Winter. From the long bubble baths to the long romancing – it is indeed the sexiest season…by far!
And you know you can’t have Winter without a list of Winter must-haves, right? Right. So, here are my Winter must-haves (in no particular order):

1. Sleep

I love my sleep. I feel like the older I become, the more of an expert I am in bed (no pun intended). Haha. And with Winter here…aaaah, with those warm, thick and heavy blankets; it just becomes extra difficult to get out of bed. Which is why I usually just stay – lectures or no lectures.

2. Music

Two of my favourite artists, especially during Winter time, have to be Sade and Floetry. Like the rain, their voices are soothing and comforting; and immediately set the mood for a relaxed environment.

3. Cuddle Buddy

Don’t tell me you actually thought I was referring to… – hehe. Active imagination you got there, mate. Well, I was actually referring to a cuddle buddy that takes more of a lifeless form. Specifically, a teddy bear. I have one whose name is Basil (pronounced Ba-zil), and he’s been around since I was about six years old. For those of you who are wondering, “What on earth happened to his legs?”, Two Words: FREAK ACCIDENT! And some word of advice: NEVER SLEEP WITH AN ELECTRIC HEATER RIGHT BESIDE YOUR BED! Poor Basil.

4. Umbrella

I don’t think it takes a mechanical engineer to figure out why an umbrella is one of Winter’s must-haves. After being drenched a couple of times, I vowed always to take this baby wherever I go, unless I am extra sure that there is absolutely no chance of rain. But then again, it’s Cape Town. One can never be too sure.

5. Long bubble baths

The feeling of your body being soaked in warm water and foam is TOO GOOD! Takes your mind off so much. Love, love, love.

6. KUSH

My friends and I blaze quite often, for recreational purposes. And we’ve gone out in the pouring rain a few times to smoke blunts, and boy, was it magical! Legalize it! Case closed.

7. Books

The perfect time to catch up on all those books that I have been meaning to read. I recently bought myself a brand new Bible (New King James Version), and I just can’t put it down. I read it every night before I go to bed, and I wake up ready to start a brand new day based on the life lessons that It teaches.

8. Tea

I recently bought myself a teapot, which I thought was super-duper cute. Because of exams, I hadn’t had the perfect opportunity to use it, until recently when my girls and I decided to have a lil’ get-together. Having long chats and watching Youtube videos with my friends is always fun, and the tea just made it extra special.  I’d take tea over coffee ANYDAY OF THE WEEK!

9. Sex

Yes, Ma’am! If there is one thing that I am not shy about, it’s expressing my sexuality. Needless to say, I think making love to the one you adore is one of the most beautiful experiences in life. I know my boyfriend can back me up on that one. And turning on some heat on a cold Winter’s evening? Eff Yes!

Sorry again for the long wait.
Enjoy!
x.
